Hello 50501 Ridgecrest,
Please imagine a scary font in the title of this newsletter, something ghostly and shivery, because our next rally, the Scary Times rally, will be held October 31st, 10 A.M. to 12 Noon at Democracy Corner (China Lake & Ridgecrest). Wear your favorite costume. Let’s show, with our creative signs and costumes, what’s scary about the Trump administration. Here are just a few suggestions: DOGE, hollowing out the Civil Service, rounding up our neighbors and disappearing them, using the American presidency for personal profit, insulting our allies and leaving a diplomacy vacuum for China and Russia to fill, attacking DEI, free speech, and abortion rights, using the Supreme Court as a rubber stamp, charting a course designed by the Heritage Foundation, etc., etc.

Vote!
YOU MAY BE TIRED OF HEARING IT, BUT PLEASE DON’T FORGET TO VOTE!
Also, please consider being a poll monitor. To do this work, you take a short training class, given by organizations like the ACLU or the California Democratic Party (CADem), and observe the polls on Election Day. You will be supported by a “boiler room” of lawyers if you notice something and have questions or if you need help answering a voter’s questions. You can also be a volunteer attorney or voter hotline operator. Here’s the link to sign up with CADem https://cadem.org/join-the-cadem-voter-protection.team/ and the link to sign up with the ACLU https://www.aclu.org/campaigns-initiatives/election-safeguarding.
Food Drive recap
Results of the October 17th food drive were amazing! According to Pam, 50501 Ridgecrest brought in a half ton of food. Each of the five pantries received 8-12 medium-sized moving boxes of food, enough to cover a pickup truck bed with little or no stacking. JustServe and KTS Farmers Market (@ktsfarmersmarket) say, “We owe a lot to your group for whatever successes we had. The community will be better for it. Thank you!”
A recap on the Cal City project will appear in a future issue of this newsletter.
Thank you for reading and participating. As always, I welcome your input.
Sincerely,
Sarah
