Progress for Flock Contract Changes

After 9 long months of public comment at City Council meetings, we have finally been invited to the negotiations table. The RPD and DeFlock committee have reached an understanding to reign in the current wide open contract. The 1st step is to stop the misuse of our data and contractually limit Flock’s ability to aid a federalized police state.

I’m very proud that at least at the lowest level of government, democracy and the frameworks of the Constitution are still functional. Change doesn’t happen overnight, it takes work and persistence.

The proposed changes to the contract and justification will be read at City Council during Public Comment on Wednesday. We will be requesting that the changes be added to the agenda so that it can be discussed openly and transparently. If the proposed changes don’t go far enough, the Council needs to hear about it.

City Council Race

There have been a lot of people who have pulled papers to run for City Council, by the end of the week we should know who all of the official candidates are. Currently, the only official candidates that have been confirmed by Kern County are Skip Gorman and myself (Brenda Licitra.) Ron Strand and Debilyn Kinzler have also submitted their paperwork and will likely get confirmed as candidates soon. We need people at all levels of government that are willing to protect our democracy and hold the line. I’m going to need your vote and your help. Join me Saturday morning at the California Welcome Center from 10am-12pm. brendalicitra.com.
