Art Collaboration Opportunity

The Fall of Freedom call for art show inspired a group of local women artists to create a collaborative mixed media mural.

Charlotte is looking for submissions from each artist to represent how women could lose their freedoms if the creators of Project 2025 win.

“This mural in fiber is a reminder to older women and a cautionary tale to younger women. It needs to represent these ideas in easily accessible design, not too abstract. And it will be constructed of fiber, fabric, textiles — the medium of women’s art and occupation from very ancient times. The pieces can be glued together or sewn.”

For details about creating a piece for the collage mural, check out this PDF and join the meeting on August 6, at 5:00-6:00pm at the California Welcome Center.  Panels will be due on September 18th so the entire mural can be assembled by the weekend of Fall of Freedom.

If you have been protesting with us, you’re invited to join us at Cal-City to meet detainees and hear their stories. We are also in need of someone who speaks spanish. Please coordinate with Eileen.

Thank you to everyone who has donated after the last email. Our little community is really amazing and is making a real difference. We exceeded our funding goal as there has been over $2,000 donated so far. We are now facilitating funds being transferred onto detainees’ commissary cards. If you would like to send support so detainees can buy food or call their loved ones, please Venmo @Eileen-Shibley-1.

Use your power as a voter

When representatives don’t listen, it’s time to elect new leaders.  Brenda Licitra is running for City Council and needs your endorsement signatures to run.  She will be at the North Starbucks this Sunday from 2-5pm.  Have an issue with the City?  She’s ready to listen.

Brenda has been the lead protest organizer for Ridgecrest 50501.  Our group will be going through some transformation while she passes the torch and continues the fight to preserve our democracy in a different capacity.  If you don’t know Brenda, check out brendalicitra.com.

Note: Endorsements must come for registered voters within the Ridgecrest city limits. Endorsements can only be given to one candidate for each race category. (If you endorse Brenda, you can not endorse another candidate for Council member. However, you can endorse a mayor as that is a different race.)
