They did it, the House passed the Senate’s version of the Big Ugly Bill. It passed the in the Senate 51-50 with Vance’s tie breaking vote and by 1 vote in the House 215 to 214.

This bill is just plain evil. People have tried to justify that we have to reduce spending because the deficit is too high. And how did it get that high? From Trump. The 2017 Tax cut for the rich added an estimated $2 trillion in debt and the Trump COVID Relief added $3.6 trillion. The total debt increase over a 10 year period following the laws that were passed during his 1st term amounts to adding $8.4 trillion. The Affordable Care Act only added $250 billion over 10 years. If we simply didn’t give the rich a tax cut and made the rich pay their fair share, we wouldn’t be in this mess. Instead, Congress has decided to continue to increase the deficit by another $3.4 trillion from this bill so the top 1% can simply be evil. Over 10 years, the national debit is estimated to go from $37 trillion to nearly $60 trillion because of this bill.

The top 1% already had enough money for another yacht, another mansion and their very own space programs. The top 1% didn’t need a tax cut. They just feel entitled to have everything because they want to feel like gods. They don’t care if children are hungry or if people die. The only thing they care about is what they perceive as theirs. A couple weekends ago my husband and I met with people who we used to work with in silicon valley and called friends. The greed these people have gotten caught up in is beyond disgusting. But not all hope is lost. There are more people who live in the real world than the rich in their multimillion dollar homes.

We have 11 months to fight back and work towards the primary in June 2026. We need to take back the House and the Senate. This will not be easy. The tax break for the rich goes into effect immediately, but Congress had enough self-preservation to schedule a delay for program cuts to take place AFTER mid-terms. Congress knows voting for this bill would be career ending for them if people felt the full consequences now.

Do not hate your neighbors. We don’t have billionaires or politicians in this town. Now is not the time to shut yourselves in and hate the other party. 1 in 4 people who voted from Trump regret their vote. Give people the benefit of the doubt that they aren’t completely horrible. At the protest last week, a woman who voted for Trump approached us to talk. She told us that she supports us protesting because even though she likes some of Trump’s ideas, she didn’t like the way he was doing it. She shared her story and had genuine fears about the administration. I don’t have blind faith that there is hope for this country. I see it at every protest when cars and semi-trucks honk for us. There is hope in Ridgecrest.
